How do carpet runners on stairs work on landings?

We'd like a carpet runner down our stairs to go with the 'period' feel of the hallway but what happens on the landings (we have 3 in total)?
I've looked at lots of interior design books and they show the stairs from the bottom looking up so I can't tell.
Does the carpet go all the way to the edges or is there a gap like on the stairs?
If it goes all the way to the edges, will it not look weird?
Is it more expensive to do this or do you just fold the edges under?

What is a VPN?

VPN is (Virtual Private Network) were first used by companies to enable their employees to securely access internal systems such as email remotely (e.g. from home or while on business trips). Today they are increasingly being used for personal use by individuals to protect their privacy while online in public places (e.g. when using the wi-fi connection in a cafe) or in a country where the internet is censored / blocked (e.g. China, Saudi Arabia…).
